What are Movie Stills?

Movie stills are individual shots taken from tv or film that are used as both a technique for creative exploration during the production process, as well as promotional material to advertise and cultivate an interest in a project.

For “Versus”, we created movie stills to determine the cinematic aesthetic and stylistic concept for the teaser.

Character Illustrations

After creating the backgrounds, we proceeded to illustrate V’s antagonist, Avyon, within the stills. Similar to rendering the environment, our artist created line art, laid down flat colors, shading, and completed the still with filters, textures, and other effects to achieve the final cinematic concept.

Still Breakdown:

Still #1

The first still, features a focused Avyon looking out from within a moonlit castle down on his Vazalian subjects.  The purpose of this shot, is to define the cinematic render of the teaser and to imply Avyon’s impertinent nature as both a Noble, Emperor, and antagonist.

Still #2

The second still, showcases’ Avyon’s smug, villainous content after a successful scheme works out in his favor.
